Chanting of ‘aartis’, loud noises of ‘dhol-taasha’, and aromas of delicious ‘modaks ’from the kitchen is what exactly describes the Ganesh Festival. Every year, we all wait eagerly for the ‘Bappa’ to arrive and bless us with happiness.Ganesh Festival celebrations were started years ago by Lokmanya Tilak. This festival is celebrated on the occasion of Lord Ganesha’s birthday. Lokmanya Tilak started this festival with an intention to unite the masses of the nation to fight against the British Colonial Rule. The tradition has never stopped since then. People from all over the world visit Mumbai and Pune to be a part of the Ganesh Utsav celebrations every year.Let us find out more about the Ganesh Utsav celebrations in Pune…There are five Ganeshas of Honour in Pune (also known as ‘Manache Ganpati’ in Pune). These five Ganeshas have the honour of being the first ones to get immersed during the immersion procession. During the pre-Independence time, people had disputes over which Ganesha would be the first one to get immersed. Tilak solved this problem by choosing five Ganeshas and stated that these five Ganeshas would be the first ones to get immersed. These five Ganeshas in order are:
- Kasba Ganpati
- Tambadi Jogeshwari
- Guruji Talim
- Tulsibaug
- Kesariwada
Staunch Ganesh devotees make it a point to visit and offer their prayers at these Ganesh Mandals every year during the festival. Apart from these five Ganesh Mandals, some of the other popular and most visited Ganesh Mandals in Pune are:
- Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati
- Sarasbaug Ganpati
- Hatti Ganpati
- Mandai Ganpati
- Bhau Rangari Ganpati
- Hutatma Babu Genu Ganpati
- Jilbya Maruti Ganpati
- Akhil Mandai Ganpati
All these mandals erect canopies (‘pandals’) which portray a lot of epical stories. Some of these pandals also exhibit stories that help generating awareness about many social and anti-social aspects. These aspects include female foeticide, consequences of alcohol and drug addiction, awareness regarding HIV, AIDS and so on. These pandals attract large crowds every evening. One of the major attractions of Ganesh Utsav is the immersion procession. Hundreds of Ganesh Mandals line up in this procession. The Lord is bidden a grand adieu with a number of ‘dhol pathaks’ participating in the procession. Some of the famous ‘dhol pathaks’ in Pune are:
- NaadBrahmha Dhol Pathak
- ShivGarjana Dhol Pathak
- Ramanbaug Dhol Pathak
These ‘pathaks’ include wonderful sequences of ‘lezim’ (a popular dance form). With time, in order to glamourize the celebrations, a lot of mal-practices are taking place. This year, let us all promise Lord Ganesha to avoid corruption practices and offer Him our sincere prayers.Wishing everyone a Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!!!займ на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн
