AMC Pushed Deadline of Incentive Scheme to March 31

ahmedabad-propoerty-taxAhmedabad: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had recently announced incentives scheme on interest over the property taxes for property tax defaulters who had not paid their property taxes on time. Introduction of this incentive scheme has helped AMC to raise additional recovery of Rs 125.03 crore as property tax.Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to extend this scheme for tax defaulters till March 31, 2014. This scheme was launched to recover pending taxes which got a huge response from the citizens. The AMC had announced this scheme will allow citizens to rebate of about 70 per cent in interest during December 1. 2013 to January 31, 2014 who9 will pay their property tax according to the new property tax system.The new formula for the property tax assessment is based on the carpet area of a property, and the formula came into force in early 2001. AMC officials also stated that the property tax defaulters who have pending dues before 2000 have given 100 per cent rebate in interest.The AMC had announced 50 per cent waiver in interest for commercial property owners who have defaulted on their property tax payments. The extension of this scheme for the period of next two months will help AMC to recover a huge amount of revenue through property tax which is outstanding due to defaulted property owners.The civic body recovered about Rs 125.3 crore during the active period of the scheme which has been collected from about 2.38.715 property owners.
