Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Municipal corporation’s budget for 2014-15 is proposed to cross mark of Rs 6,000 crore. The budget mark and less JNNURM projects will result into tight finances this year in AMC. Civic body will be forced to pursue their revenues on bit tight scale.The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has always been high on cash due to JNNURM projects and better revenue earnings. Last year, the budget was presented for Rs 5400 crore while the standing committee approved a budget of Rs 4952 crore which lead to almost 60 percent hike in the property tax.Property tax collection of previous year reached the mark of Rs 700 crore by the March-end. According to the senior financial officials the property tax target may be increased to Rs 800 crore for the coming financial year which will further increases the possibility of hike in the property tax.Although senior official of AMC denied saying that there won’t be any property tax hike in the city. The budget will hover around Rs 5400 crore mark. The absence of JNNURM projects has led AMC to seek grant of more than Rs 500 crore under the Swamim Gujarat Urban Development (SGUD) funds from the state government.AMC is also planning to thrust the revenue through housing for Lower Income Groups (LIG) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) along with STP plant which will help to replace Narmada waters being used for Sabarmati riverfront.
