Located in the western region of Madhya Pradesh, Indore is the largest city of the state. Earlier named Indreshwar after the Indreshwar temple in the city, it got transliterated as “Indore” during the British rule in India. An artificial lake is also constructed on the river beds of Khan River with fountains, gardens and boating facilities. Lal Bagh Palace. Built by Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar during 1886-1921, the 28 hectares Lal Bagh Palace is one of the marvels of the Holkar dynasty. It reflects the lifestyle, eminence and choices of the Holkars. The palace was a place for many royal receptions and before contained one of the best rose gardens of the country. With its eye-catching architecture, Lal Bagh is a breathing monument. Now Lal Bagh is transformed into museum which remains open between 10 am to 5 pm.Sukh Niwas Palace. The summer place of Holkans, Sukh Niwas Palace is yet another stunning piece of architecture in Indore. The Sukh Niwas Lake and adjoining beautiful gardens are an addition to the charms of the Palace. It also includes an underground tunnel which connects the Sukh Niwas Palace from the Old Palace. The oldest park in Indore, built by the British, Nehru Park offers the entertainment for kids as well as adults.
