Thoseghar – Heavenly Abode of Majestic Waterfalls

Waterfalls are quite an attractive nature’s gift to human beings from ancient period. They give poet a reason to write poetries and inspire us to fill our lives with zeal and zest.  I am always fascinated with waterfalls since my childhood days as I never seen one of them except in the televisions until I turned sixteen. Recently I visited a place that is actually a paradise for waterfall lovers. It is 134 kilometers away from Pune city towards Satara in Maharashtra state. When we talk about Pune we can find that there are many places around Pune that are overloaded with natural beauty. One such place is Thoseghar.Thoseghar is a naturally blessed haven having the most beautiful waterfalls in the entire state of Maharashtra. High mountains, lush green surroundings, pollution free atmosphere, cool breeze, dancing clouds in the sky and the very loud music of high falling waterfalls. Isn’t it amazing? This hilly area when covered with greenery seems like god has spread a comfy and fluffy green carpet on the entire mountains.  In summer this place may not look as inviting as in the mid monsoon because the waterfalls get dry in hot summer and the weather makes difficult for us to enjoy the place. In the mid monsoon time the waterfalls start flowing in its full strength and the mountains get covered with green nature colour. The whole environment welcomes you if you visit at the right time of the year.Nowadays people have become more exploring and try to find new peaceful places nearby that can be visited in a day or two with family and friends. Thoseghar is the right place to enjoy and please your senses. It is an upcoming tourist destination as very few people know about this spot which is full of amazing waterfalls and green woods to satisfy your hunger for a blast in the nature. The serene surroundings, high hills, calm and clean lake, loud but welcoming sound of waterfalls make you spell bound. Some of the waterfalls here are very high and seems like they are dropping from the sky.   The average height of most of the waterfalls here is 15 to 20 metres but one is approximately 500 metre high that is a stunning sight for you. Recently there is a proper cemented platform is made on the point to view the waterfalls. Thoseghar is not very crowded and thus you get opportunity to enjoy the environment peacefully and away from maddening crowd. What to see here?• Majestic waterfalls• High mountains• Serene lake• Dark woods• Chalkewadi windmill farm• Sajjangad Fort (almost in ruins)The Chalkewadi windmill farm is quite near to Thoseghar. You must visit this interesting place while making a one day trip to Thoseghar as it is much to my surprise is really a farm of windmills. I never saw in my entire life such huge wind mills that to not ten or twelve but hundreds of it all over the hills. My first experience to see something like this made me spellbound and the only word I could utter was “wow”.There are some road side restaurants available but it is good if you take your snack and drinking water with you. It is a good one day return destination so you don’t need to find accommodation. No hotels or lodging is there.Distance from Pune to ThosegharIt is 134 kilometres from Pune. One can find regular buses departing from Swargate to Satara and then any rickshaw or local bus can take you to the destination Thoseghar. From Satara, Thoseghar is just 20 kilometres away.Best time to visitYou must go to Thoseghar only in mid monsoon then only your visit will be worth remembering.
