As the name suggests this aquarium is named after a rich Parsi who contributed a major amount to build this beautiful aquarium. It was created in the year 1951 with a cost of Rs. 800000. The Taraporewala Aquarium was inaugurated by the first President of independent India Dr. Rajendra Prasad in the year 1951.Colourful marine life and fresh water fish are the main attractions of the aquarium. This special museum is the address of about hundred species of Marine as well as fresh water fish and thus no doubt it can be the best place to explore the rare underwater marine life. The aquarium also houses seven types of coral fish brought in from the popular islands of Lakshadweep. The main hall of aquarium consists of two sections. Among these two the first portion is 160 cubic feet while the other one is just 2 cubic feet. The aquarium displays marine life in two types of water tanks. the bigger tanks exhibits sharks, Octopus, Kite fish while the smaller tanks has Corals, worms, sea flowers, sea horses, etc.Some of the major attractions in the aquarium are:

You can also enjoy the articles crafted out of shells and precious pearl jeweller displayed here. The aquarium authorities are planning to renovate the place shortly in order to make it more attractive and advanced so that more and more visitors can come and explore the place. The planning includes transforming the current museum into hi tech aquarium along with adding features like glass vision sea world and underwater sea walk.
