Suzhou Center: She Breathes Deeply

suzhou-centerShe got a lung inside her body and breathes deeply. It isn’t natural for any building to breathe and provide cool air flow in the summer seasons to its occupants. But when Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM designed and engineered 6 out of 12 tallest buildings in the world) and the Greenland Group collaborates to create a project then it seems believable. Inspired from the digital aerodynamic modeling technique used in high powered automobiles, SOM has tried to design a building with an interior lung that will allow ventilation throughout the 358 m building with full incoming of natural light and cool breeze (in summer). Due to its extraordinary design, it is estimated that the building would save 60 percent of energy consumption as compared to American Skyscrapers. Sozhou Center is located at Wujiang, China and made for mixed use (both residential and commercial).Beautifully positioned near the Lake Taihu and Wujiang central business district, the 284,000 sq m Suzhou Center’s curved and tapered design with a 30-story tall opening (almost seems like slit opened) will decorate the skyline of the city. Overall of 75 floors consisting offices, apartments, shops and a hotel, Suzhou Center is a mixture of everything that makes this place a city itself. The tower is oriented in the east-west direction to maximize the entry of wind and sun. The entry of heat is maximized when it’s most helpful and minimized when the radiation is futile.suzhou-centerBreathingUsing the concept of aerodynamics, the engineers at SOM have tested the tower model through a sequence of wind tests to obtain the correct angles that allow maximum air entry. The use of convex facade with smaller concave facades in between is to reduce the structural load and boost natural ventilation. As the pattern of wind flow changes with the time, high powered digital controls will be equipped in the tower to calculate the force and direct the air flow as per the climatic conditions. The lung (opening) in the building will permit the wind to pass through it however it is the electronic windows that will control the speed and inlet volume of air.suzhou-centerLesser Energy ConsumptionSuzhou Center is a LEED-CS silver status project that highly contemplates innovative methods for minimizing the energy consumption. Its distinctive design makes the most of natural light, reducing the dependency on electrical lighting system, hence decreasing the energy usage. Since the height of building is very much, the air that enters inside is comparatively fresher and contains fewer pollutants. The building also includes energy recovery systems, rain water harvesting and condensate recovery methods. The potable water in the site can be saved up to 50% while60% of energy can be banked.Suzhou Center is an exceptional creation by the group of Structural and Mechanical Engineers, Urban Designers and Environmentalists. It’s a move to consume the most from the nature by utilizing the genius of human mind. Not a surprise that the project won multiple International Architecture, Sustainability and Designing Awards. And Suzhou Center just keeps breathing!займ на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн
