Pune: With the announcement tax rebates for those who settle their property tax dues before the 31st of May 2012, a revenue inflow of Rs. 300 crore has overwhelmed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Since the beginning of the current financial year, more than 3 lakh citizens have lined up in front of the tax department to write off the property tax dues. A tax discount scheme was introduced to encourage the citizens to pay the tax dues on time. Tax payers have begun settling the due amount which has lead to a huge revenue collection. Property tax is chargeable for all types of property. From residential apartment to commercial complex, every owner is liable to pay the resulting property tax.The Pune Municipal Corporation keeps track of all the property under its jurisdiction. The property tax payable differs on the basis of property size and locality. Depending on these barometers property tax is calculated which is payable within the stipulated period of time.The revenue collected through property tax in Pune is expected to cross even the present number.
