Kharghar, one of the most developed nodes of Navi Mumbai is located at the distance of less than an hour’s drive from the heart of the city of Mumbai on the Mumbai-Pune highway. One of the most developed nodes of Navi Mumbai Kharghar adjoins the CBD. Even though it has been developed basically as a residential area it also houses several commercial projects.Bound by 2 major highways and with the Taloje industrial estate on its east Kharghar has been divided into 45 sectors. Nexzone is also close to the Mumbai-Goa road.There is also a proposed skywalk to facilitate movement for pedestrians to and from the Kharghar Railway Station. The skywalk will cross the national highway and run parallel to the highway between Bharati Vidyapeeth up to the entrance of, and then along Pravesh Marg to Utsav chowk. The railway station will have an escalator in the entrance foyer for the pedestrians to alight.It takes about 65 minutes to reach Kharghar by suburban train from CST. A drive by road from CST (39 km) takes about 90 minutes. The six lane Mumbai-Pune highway starts at Kalamboli which is near Kharghar. A new broad gauge line has now connected Kharghar to Karjat via Panvel.Local trains of the Harbour line in the Central Railway ply between Kharghar and CST and the Western line is connected through the Wadala station. Within the suburb itself NMMT facilities are easily available and buses ply frequently between stations, nodes and within sectors. NMMT Buses also ply directly to Kharghar Railway Station. B.E.S.T has also introduced some buses that ply to parts of Mumbai.Private cars and two-wheelers however continue to serve as the prime means of transport. Private Taxi owners like Meru Networks offer taxi services from Kharghar to other parts of Navi Mumbai and Mumbai.As of now houses in Kharghar are available at about Rs 3,000-6,500 per sq ft while commercial projects range from Rs 4,000 to Rs 15,000 per sq ft depending on the area.
