How important it is to have a green zone amidst a city full of crowd, uncontrolled traffic, noise and pollution? You won’t find a better place than a good sized garden with a temple to get rid of hustle and bustle of city. The name of this place is Peshwa Udyan (garden). It is located quite near to the Saras Baug in Pune, Maharashtra. This garden has a zoo that attracts good number of kids because it has number of wild animals apart from reptiles as well as birds. The garden seems well maintained and clean. There is lake here too. This lake serves as a boat ride place for tourists from outside city as well as locals. There are some standard joy rides too to enjoy. What one can ask more if he gets open space, greenery, beautiful lake front and colourful flowerings in the surrounding? The peaceful and clean atmosphere here invites everyone to indulge in nature. The Peshwa Udyan is also famous for its Phoolrani. You must be thinking who is this character? Actually it is not any character but a small toy train which is loved by all the children who visit this place. This little toy train is called Phoolrani with love. Youngsters can walk in the beautiful lush greenery while children can enjoy the zoo and various rides. This garden is also having a temple which is said to be very old probably built in the seventeenth century. Though the temple is hundreds of years old but it has something special that invite us to have a look and be involved in its history. The elaborate carvings in the temple and decorations on the walls of temple are beautiful and remind us the time of Peshwas. The temple has the main idol of Ganpati who is the favourite God in the region as you will find uncountable temples of Ganesha here. The Ganesha in this temple is called Talayatala Ganpati. It is said when the lake of this garden was dug up, some sand was being kept aside in the temple. It is indeed a good place for seniors to spend time here. The trees which are standing tall and wide are planted by the Peshwas and thus this garden got the name Peshwa Udyan. Udyan means garden. It was not a park at the time of Peshwas but later when Pune Municipal Corporation came into picture; it was turned into a garden cum zoo and opened for public visiting. I must agree that the entrance charges are very nominal or I should say almost negligible as compared to what it has to offer. It is under maintenance of Pune Municipal Corporation.Entrance fees:For adults – Rupees 2 per PersonFor kids – Rupees 1 per childTrain ride chargesFor adults – Rupees 3 per personFor kids – Rupees 1 per childTimings to visitVisiting timings are from 9.00 in the morning till 5.30 in the evening.
