The building has been planned and designed according to the urban planning guidelines to align the perimeter of the building with existing streets. The design of the structure blends itself in the existing skyline of the city and even adds a masterpiece in the overall out look of the city. Although the structure resembles the pile of garbage boxes stacked over each other, center of the building is intentionally marvelously designed to keep it away from the city hustle-bustle and noise of heavy trafficked streets. The heart of the structure has a large public courtyard which has several restaurants, cafes, large reflecting pools, public art sections and extensive landscaping etc.The Nord LB structure rises above the courtyard through series of twist and turns of blocks creating a visual marvel of structure. The outer structure creates a huge view of randomly stacked blocks providing natural ventilation. The double façade of the structure provides protection against noise and vehicle emissions which also serves as a duct to transfer clean air through the centrally located courtyard. The structure and design of the building create a comfortable and eco-friendly environment by reducing carbon dioxide emission from the structure; the structure also optimizes the use of the sunlight. The architect’s vision behind the inception of the structure was to create a transition zone between southern residential area and historical northern region. The structure did not do well for the architecture vision but it certainly is an eye-catching beauty in the city.Nord-LB-insideInside the buildingThe building is specifically constructed for employees of the Norddeutsche Landesbank as an office space which also includes a restaurant and an exhibition center along with various recreational centers for employees.
