Millennium Park is basically created for general public and to promote tourism in the city on the eastern shore of Hooghly River. It is close to the Babughat and opposite to Kolghat. This park was a part of Kolkata Riverside Beautification Project.This beautiful Park was inaugurated on 1st January 2000 as a gift of new millennium to the city of joy Kolkata. Situated on the banks of River Ganga on a stretch of about 2.5 kilometres this park is a brilliant concept for a city like Kolkata. It is located on the Strand Road close to BBD Bagh in Kolkata. The brainchild behind this beautiful amusement park is Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority which conceptualised and developed this park on the River front in order to try to beautify the banks of river. The land on which this park is created belongs to the Port Trust. This park attracts thousands of visitors all through the year. Beautifully located at the banks of river, it gives the old to sit near the river and enjoy the sunsets while the cool breeze will take away the sweats of the day. There are rows of benches installed for creating sufficient space for resting near the river front and enjoying the nature. The railing by the river is spread in length and covers a long distance but does not block the picturesque view of river and the kissing sky. The lush greenery refreshes your lungs and gives a respite from the polluted city atmosphere.No doubt this park has enhanced the beauty of the river front and added joy to the people who love to spend quality time meditating with the waves of River. If you bring your kids with you then while they enjoy the children’s section you can take rest to indulge in the nature as there are sitting arrangements at different places in the park like stools, benches, chairs, shades of cottages, etc. Cottage shades can save you from heat and rains as sometimes weather is quite unpredictable. The children’s exclusive park here has many slides, merry go rounds and such other rides to cheer you little ones up. The evening time is perfect as the heat is on low side and the cool breeze from the river side soothes your senses and relives tiredness. Watching the sky going into the hands of dark is a different experience while the lights of the park and the city’s high rises seems to be like stars and complete environment takes you into its grip.
