Mandai-The Historic Landmark of Pune is Getting a Facelift

Pune witnesses rich culture through its monuments, historical buildings and beautiful architecture.  Mandai is one of such heritage structures. It is still standing tall after 121 years of its inception. It was built by British in the pre independence era. The full name of Mandai is Mahatma Phule Mandai which is the biggest vegetable market in the heart of Pune city. It is situated in Shukrawar Peth near Tulsi Baugh area. It has eight entrance gates to facilitate people. This place is mostly crowed on all days but on weekends and festival seasons it is over crowed. One can get a variety of fruits and vegetables at the wholesale price here and that is why many people come to shop here. There are five hundred and twenty six fruits and vegetable stalls here to shop in. Apart from fruits and vegetables one can get various worship articles here at cheap rate.  The Mandai structure is historically significant that is why in spite of being very old it was not reconstructed just repaired time to time to keep it original.  The Mandai has its own Ganesh Mandal that is the most important Ganesh Mandal of Pune city and worshiped by almost everybody from city and outside the city at the time of Ganesh Festival. There are skywalks proposed on four sides to this market. The proposed Shivajinagar- Swargate Skywalk will go through Dagadushet Halwai Ganapati and Mandai Market to connect Shivajoinagar station with Swargate region. The skywalk will be developed om the four sides of the Mandai Market with an aim to reduce pedestrians’ obstruction to the traffic and to avoid traffic bottlenecks on Chatrapati Shivaji Road. When the Mandai was built the population was quite less as compared to current number. The market has become very crowded and it makes shopping difficult for everyone. There is another problem with this place is the parking space. One has to struggle for parking if he or she comes with a four wheeler. You may find this place more unorganized and encroached by shop owners thus leaving very less space for us to move freely. There are no restrooms in the area making your shopping experience worse. Due to all such problems Pune Municipal Corporation finally realized the necessity to renovate the market area and gracefully decorate and restore the historical heritage of Pune city. The Rs.10 .51 Crore (source – Times of India) plan has been proposed to give a new look to our old and the biggest vegetable market of Pune city. Isn’t it great? Things should be changed and refurbished with time as per the requirements. Now it will be the new and modern shopping hub especially for vegetables, fruits and some other articles but in an organized manner and with restrooms, separate loading unloading areas, two additional floors for road side stalls, elevators, escalators, stair cases, terraces, systematic signboards, proper parking lots along with some beautification bodies like water fountains with lightings, sitting area etc. It is the much needed and much waited renovation plan for the Mandai market area. The actual plan may take some time to materialize but wait will be fruitful if it gives us convenience, comfort and uplift to our heritage structure.  There will be space for everything in the new renovated structure. It will solve the overcrowding problem of the area along with parking problem. There will be some new structures built to accommodate all the sellers and road side stalls. The old building can be used for exhibitions, cultural activities or reading rooms. The new plan insists on optimum utilization of floor space index.  The new plan definitely looks very attractive and we can expect a hundred percent new look after the modifications completed as planned. We may have to take pains while the renovation will be in progress but the outcome will sooth our eyes and comfort our shopping experience. It is really a good step to integrate the beauty of heritage city of Pune and being a Punekar we all should support and cooperate such initiatives that help to restore our historically significant landmarks.Ruchi Mahajanзайм на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн
