Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Pune

Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is a project of the Government of Maharashtra State, India. It is the leading corporation of Maharashtra. It provides businesses with infrastructure such as land (open plot or built-up spaces), roads, water supply, drainage facilities and street lights. MIDC has come up with industrial areas, to initiate action for infrastructure and help entrepreneurs set up the industrial units in those areas. The important policy decision of setting up “independent filtered /potable water supply system of adequate capacity” as essential infrastructure for industrial development was the most intelligent step taken by MIDC right in the beginning. It stabilized the population base near the industrial areas. The strategically wise decision taken simultaneously to provide water supply to nearby domestic population from the capabilities created by MIDC of their own water supply system resulted in a phenomenal urban growth in the nearby small towns and villages. The growth of Kalyan complex and Pimpri-Chinchwad are results of this key policy decision taken by MIDC. Thus MIDC has changed the social economic scenario of the state as its activities spread in the interior.MIDC has provided some specialized facilities for the growth of industries and accordingly specialized parks / industrial clusters are developed with specialized infrastructure facilities. In this way IT & BT Parks, Wine Parks, Textile Parks, Chemical Zones, Food Parks, Leather Park, Floriculture Park and Electronic Zone etc. are developed by MIDC.Considering the International standard facilities required to attract multinational companies, five star industrial areas are developed by MIDC at 9 locations in the State of Maharashtra. Considering the export potential of the various products specifically delineated duty free enclave which is to be deemed to be foreign territory for the purpose of trade operations and duties and traffics special economic zones are being developed by MIDC to provide hassle free environment for exporters. Industrial GroupsThe Industrial Policy of the State has classified all Talukas in the State into A,B,C,D & D+ groups. Further some districts are classified as No Industry Districts (NIDs). As such all industrial areas which come under a particular talukas will be assigned the classification/group of that Taluka. The classification indicates the level of development as follows:Group A: Comprising the developed areas, viz.     What about other areas such as Hadapsar , Pirangut , Bhosari,pune -satara road insustrial area etc..
    These are also not mentioned in the MIDC website Why?

    Are they not part of MIDC ?

    If i am not mistaken MIDC is an initiative of Maharashtra State Government which is primarily into developing industrial infrastructure for the growth of small, medium, large and heavy industries. This agency is concerned with activities like development of industries by acquiring land, constructing roads, implementing water supply schemes and providing common facilities like banks, tax exemptions, police station and hospitals.
    MIDC classifies manufacturing activities into 3 categories Red, Orange and Green. Red includes industries like distilleries, sugar, pharmaceuticals, etc. Orange includes hotels and restaurants, fish processing, automobile servicing etc. Green includes industries like handloom weaving, gold and silver smithy, etc.
    Areas like Pirangut and Hadapsar which were at one point of time considered as outskirts of the city were primarily having small and medium scale industries. If you compare industrial estates like Hadapsar, Pirangut to that of MIDC’s in Pune you will not find very good infrastructure like roadways, water supply, etc. Other big time forging and manufacturing companies like TELCO, GM Motors, Bajaj Auto, Force India are rare to find. Most of the MIDC companies are blue chip companies or public limited. The same goes with the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park which is in Hinjewadi.
    Also the civic infrastructure and provisions for good transport facilities within an area are taken into consideration before setting up an industry as per MIDC norms.

  26. As far as I know they are not under MIDC. But at times the local administration tends to use the term Hadapsar MIDC which is quite misleading at times, but to my knowledge Pirangut and Hadapsar are more of Industrial Estates.
