Franking is a method of indicating the payment of stamp duty. Franking machines are installed in some Sub-Registrar offices or post offices. These machines frank up to a denomination of Rs 999. A document is first prepared on plain paper and before the parties sign it is taken to a bank where stamp duty is paid and a stamp is put on the paper indicating the value of the stamp duty.
