As we hear the word dinosaur a big image comes to our mind but we are not scared because we know that these huge fascinating animals have vanished millions of years back from the earth. We should give the credit for any knowledge we have about dinosaurs to Steven Spielberg whose creativity and imagination gave birth to the grand movie on dinosaurs named “Jurassic Park”. After this movie all of a sudden dinosaurs came to existent in everyone’s mind and we all are compelled to believe that in future dinosaurs can be created as shown in the movie. This fantastic effort of making Jurassic Park has made all of us curious to know more about the dinosaurs. Let me take you to the only museum of this fascinating creature which once walked on our earth millions of years ago in the entire country. This museum is actually in the form of Park. This park is situated at Indroda in Gandhinagar in the state of Gujarat.
The full name of this magnificent park is Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park and it is also called Indroda Nature Park. You will be surprised and proud to know that it has been described as the second largest hatchery of Dinosaur Eggs in the world. Isn’t it great to have such a place in our country? Popularly this park is known as Jurassic Park of India, though the fossils here do not belong the Jurassic Park period but due to popularity of Jurassic Park movie it is called so. It is a precious historic treasure of our country. This park is spread over an area of approximately four hundred hectares on the bank of River Sabarmati. The Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park is established by the Archaeological Survey of India in order to preserve, understand and study the precious treasure of fossils of prehistoric giants found here. This park is currently maintained and run by the Gujarat Ecological Education Research Foundation known as GEER Foundation in short.
Apart from dinosaurs fossils you also enjoy the zoo with varied wild life, gigantic skeletons of sea mammals one of which is of blue whale, a widely spread botanical garden and a Wilderness Park. In the wilderness park you get chance to sight beautiful avian species, reptiles, Nilgiris, Langurs and Peafowls. The forest cover does connect you to the nature’s rich flora and fauna. The fossils displayed here belong to a later period, called Cretaceous Period, than Jurassic Park. The fossilized Dinosaur eggs exhibited in the park are quite centre of attraction for one and all. Apart from these fossil eggs there are many skeletal parts displayed here belonging to Cretaceous Period are said to be lived here around 65 million years ago. You can observe while exploring the fossil eggs of dinosaurs that they all are not equal in the size parameters. Some eggs are big and some are small. There are some eggs of a cannon ball size. The display also includes the fossil track ways of these gigantic animals. The life size models of various dinosaurs with sufficient information like the period of their existence along with their main characteristics, behavioural patterns, age and etymological origins are exhibited in the park to educate and create interest in people of all ages. These models are created using fibre glass and resin. These models are the result of joint efforts of the students of MSU Faculty of Fine Arts and the geologists of Geological Survey of India, Gandhinagar. Dr. Z. G. Ghevaria is the main geologist whose technical guidance and expertise in the external morphology of these animals helped the museum to take its present shape.The various dinosaurs which are displayed here are as under:

By watching these life size models you just feel like you are standing in a period when dinosaurs existed and they are about to make a move. It is really a magical experience to explore this special park. There is an amphitheatre and interpretation centre to help you understand this majestic animal better. The authorities do provide the camping facilities if asked by visitors.
