Kolkata: Plans to enhance the existing infrastructure and other civic amenities of the city has been put on high priority in the agenda. This initiative has been taken up by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development authorities to boost the overall infrastructure of the city. Kolkata has been witnessing rapid economic development since the boom of the IT industry. The increase in number of migrants made it necessary to focus on the present infrastructure of the city. The growing congestion in the city has resulted in the construction of flyovers across the city. Proposals to construct 6-7 flyovers connecting the prime localities of the cities have been put forth. Moreover plans to refurbish the Hooghly riverfront, improve water supply and drainage facilities are amongst the other programs which aims to give a face-lift to the infrastructure of this city. The Kolkata suburbs will also be a part of this development drive.
