Igatpuri-in-MaharashtraBeing one of the most beautiful natural place and hill station Igatpuri is situated at the Mumbai – Agra Highway (NH3) on the Western Ghats in the district of Nasik of Maharashtra state. The beauty of this place is multi fold during and after monsoon. This small beautiful is popular around the country for its Vipassana Meditation Centre. This little town is very well connected with railways as almost all important trains halt here for about 20 minutes because the locomotives of trains change here as it lies between Mumbai and Nasik Road on Central Railway. Idlis and vadapavs are quite common snacks sold on the station.Igatpuri is so naturally so rich because this is the place where lies the highest peaks of Sahyadri Mountains known as Western Ghats. Here on the mountains you will find many ruins of centuries old forts built in at the regime of Satavahana dynasty. This is the most preferred location for trekkers and hikers because of the scenic surroundings and the proper trekking opportunities. Situated at an elevation of 600 metres Igatpuri has the largest Vipassana Meditation Centre known as Dhammagiri Meditation Centre. Here visitors come not only from all parts of the our country but also from all over the world to learn the special ancient technique of meditation called Vipassana (insight meditation) which was taught by Lord Buddha 2500 years back in India. The centre is known as Vipassana International Academy. The centre at Dhammagiri actually a math established by S. N. Goenka offers courses on Vipassana meditation. At the centre you will see a large golden Pagoda. This place makes Igatpuri quite significant in India.   • Bhatsa River Valley is located at the last point of Thal ghat before you enter Igatpuri from Mumbai. Striking valley with eye catching topography, river, dense greenery and Rocky Mountains make the place picturesque.
  • Just 35 kilometres from Igatpuri situated the highest peak of Sahyadri Mountains is Kalsubai Peak.
  • Serene Arthur Lake in the middle of dense woods is just few kilometres from Igatpuri can be a perfect spot to indulge in nature. It is formed by the waters of Pravara River of Bhandardara region.
  • Situated at a height of 3000 feet from sea level Tringalwadi Fort is a place from where you can enjoy the most spectacular panoramic views of entire valley. This heighted fort attracts good number of trekkers. The top of the fort looks like a turban from distance. The access way to the fort is quite narrow. There is a lake known as Tringalwadi Lake here.
  • Camel valley is another attraction in the region close to Bhatsa River Valley. it is popular for its beautiful water fall that falls from a height of 1000 ft. In mosoon you can see this water fall as it is formed by rain water.
  • There is one 11th century temple of lord Shiva known as Amruteshwar Temple created in Hemadpanti style amidst dense greenery.
  • Ghatadevi temple and Five Water Falls are other attractions at the place.
