Harihareshwar – Weekend Tourist Spot and Divine Destination

Beaches are always popular among the youth and if you live in Pune there is no shortage of beaches around as the Konkan coast line is not far away from here. Once you reach at the coat line, there are various choices of different beaches. Harihareshwar is one of these beaches. It is also famous for its temple which is quite old but beautiful to make you indulge in religious inclination. The other names of Harihareshwar are Devghar i.e. house of God, Dakshin Kashi i.e. Kashi of South India, Harihar and Pushpadri. It is a small village having seashore temple which is popular for its Pradaksihna Marg around the temple. Due to its temples Harihareshwar has become a famous religious destination for devotees. The temple is situated on the hills near seashore. One can enjoy the beaches as well as this historic religious place together here. The sea shore is on some places very rocky and not suitable for swimmers to swim. One needs to know the exact timings of high tide and low tide as it can be dangerous to do Pardakshina of the temple when high tide is there. The expected time to complete one round (Pradakshina) of the temple is approximately thirty to 30 to 35 minutes. There are steps one can see and use from temple to sea shore going down. There are approximate 200 steps that include 60 long and wide while 140 narrow steps. The steps are built between two cliffs. The views of Harihareshwar from the cliff are spectacular. The most interesting thing that I noticed here is the bubble print on the rocks. Yes it looks like when the rocks were forming there must be some air bubbles left here and there and thus they made interesting designs on the rocks. One should avoid hot summer days to visit this place otherwise it will be quite an energy consuming task to roam around the place. You can find beautiful idols of Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh and Devi Parvati in the temple. There are some other temples too in the premises where the idols of Kalbhairav and Yogeshwari Devi are worshiped. Nobody actually knows the exact time when the temple was being constructed but it seems that it is built in the regime of Shivaji Maharaj because it has resemblance to the sculptures of that time. It is known that the temple was renovated by the First Bajirao Peshwa in the year 1723. Who so ever constructed these beautiful temples one needs to accept that they give exceptionally amazing views of Harihareshwar. The Shri Vardhan is just 25 kilometres from Harihareshwar. The distance from Pune to Harihareshwar is approximately 180 kilometres. The distance depends on the starting point. It can be five kilometres plus or minus. There are accommodation facilities available. MTDC Resort is a good option to stay. There are dharmshalas also available. One can find restaurants here easily as it has now a popular weekend destination for people. How to reach Harihareshwar?State transport is there from Swargate Bus Stand regularly otherwise one can opt for self vehicle to enjoy the scenic coast line of Konkan region.
