Go White!

We consider a number of different shades and tints while painting our homes. Many of us would prefer to paint our walls white. Feng Shui experts too recommend white in many cases. However, we often tend to avoid the use of white colour, mainly because it gets dirty easily. At times, we also avoid the use of white furniture.

Given below are a few tips that will help you to use your favourite white effectively:

    • Most of the new homes are already painted white. In such cases, you get complete freedom of experimenting with different colours. You can have a different colour for each of the accessory right from the centre table to the curtains. Having white walls will add to the brightness of the room and this colour also makes the room look bigger. In case the room looks too bright, you can combine white with dark shades of pink. If the room is dark, use soft shades for curtains. For example light yellow, peach, etc.

    • If you are willing to have white furniture, make sure that the furniture has glass top. White coloured sofas can be teamed with peach coloured chairs and centre tables. The sofa covers and cushions can be changed from time to time, so that creativity is maintained. This way the room tends to remain colourful.

    • Try to avoid white coloured furniture in kitchens. If you still wish to use white in kitchens, go for white crockery and cutlery. The kitchen stains can easily spoil the walls. White tiles are a better option.
    • If you don’t wish to paint a particular room white, you have an easy option of using this colour for other accessories. For example, the wall clock, photo fames or the flower vase could be white.
    • White is ideal for bedrooms and bathrooms. In bedrooms, white could be used for curtains, bed sheets and wardrobes. In bathrooms, you may have white tiles, white joinery and white cabinets.

  • Wooden floors and white walls call for a perfect combination. Rooms having white walls can also look good when paired with dark tiles.
  •  Use contrast colours with white to add a white effect to the rooms.
