Eco Friendly Housing – The New Mantra

The new emerging mantra for real estate is eco housing. It is an attempt to save our environment by adopting some eco friendly ways in the townships. The eco housing means a house or a building or a township that has adopted various technologies like solar heating system, waste management, worm culture, natural lighting system, water recycling system, etc to conserve the environment.The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is the first urban local body in India to implement the eco housing programme under the technical assistance provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The eco housing concept is beneficial for consumers, builders as well as for the corporation. To promote the concept of eco housing PMC has set up a dedicated cell for eco housing. It is an innovative approach that can help to restore our environment along with the conservation of natural resources and optimum utilisation of funds being invested in the property by the consumer. A temporary eco housing certificate is awarded to those projects that clear the initial checks.The verification of measures adopted takes places at different stages during construction. After verifying a report is submitted to the eco housing cell based on which PMC gives the final certification to the project.
