Actually this place has got its name from Mr. T. W. Cuffe from the Bombay City Improvement Trust. This trust actually reclaimed about 90000 square yards which means 75000 square meters at the western coast of Colaba area in order to develop Cuffe Parade. You may be surprised to know that the current Cuffe Parade’s most of the area is developed on this reclaimed part of land in the year 1960s. This is one of the initial locations in Mumbai city where high rise buildings came into existence that is up to thirty storeys. Due to these high rise structures this location of Mumbai city resembles to that of Manhattan of New York City of USA. That is why it is called the Manhattan of Mumbai. Just like the Manhattan area of New York is housing rich and famous, this area of Mumbai also is the home of some rich and famous celebrities as well as business tycoons.Though the name of the location is bit out of line for Mumbaikars but still it is popular destination for one and many. Now let me give details of its exact location so that you won’t find it difficult to reach here. Cuffe Parade is located in the southern part of Mumbai city and north of Navy Nagar. At the north of this area you will find Badhwar Park and Ambedkar Nagar where slums reside in good numbers. At the eastern side Colaba Causeway is situated while on the west you can enjoy the view of the mighty Arabian Sea. The elevation of Cuffe Parade is 4 metres or 13 feet from sea level.The industrialist Anbanis are the residents of this posh location apart from Husain Family among the rich and famous of India. All of you must be knowing that the World Trade Centre was situated in New York but there is another World Trade Centre which is known as MVRDC World Trade Centre I situated in India in Cuffe Parade of Mumbai. This huge structure consists of 35 floors and has a height of 156 metres. This amazing structure was designed by architect Pheroze Kudianawala while it was developed by Shapoorji Pallonji. This World Trade Centre I is a significant commercial as well as retail shopping complex of Mumbai city.
