Churchgate – An Important Suburb of South Mumbai City

Initially Mumbai city was a walled city until mid nineteenth century which means a wall was built around the city and three gates were constructed. Among these three gates one was located at Flora Fountain spot. This gate was later removed when the city was expanded. Now you must have understood why this place was known as Churchgate.The Churchgate Railway station is a famous terminus along with being the headquarters of Western Railway. It is one of the oldest as well as busiest railway stations of the city of Mumbai. This station is the starting point of many trains. Churchgate area is the address of many important commercial buildings, banking and business organisations. Apart from these Churchgate area also houses many prestigious educational institutions. The area is quite popular among tourists and several bollywood movies were shot here. If you talk about the attractions here then I must inform you that the famous Elephants Caves are situated here.These caves are ancient Buddhist caves and significant historic monuments. Marine Drive which is a three kilometres extremely beautiful stretch known as Queen’s Necklace at the coastal line of Arabian Sea is also in the close vicinity of Churchgate and worth exploring.
