In 1958 Brussels World Fair, Andre Waterkeyn conceptualized an extraordinary futuristic structure motivated from the structure of an Atom which represented it in an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. The structure was a part of the Expo-58 which was designed as an astonishing edifice to entice viewers across the globe. It’s a structure and moreover a sculpture made with futuristic vision of creating a masterpiece on the skyline of Brussels. Being the Icon of the world Expo-58, the structure holds a special place in the Belgium’s urban development’s and it is one of the most important structures of the country. The structure is more than just a museum; it holds a special place on the urban canvas of the city attracting thousands of tourists every year. The structure when built was noted as the carrier of the message of using atomic energy peacefully for the better purpose instead of destruction. The structure was built to stand for a temporary period at initial, but the structure still holds its ground even after decades have passed after the World Expo-58 with its renovation in 2004-2006.
Structure of AtomiumHighly resembling like some third world’s object, the structure lies somewhere between a spaceship, or a giant spider, but the structure actually is a symbol of the atom concept represented by magnifying 165 billion times. The structure is built with nine large spheres coupled together with steel and aluminum tubes having total height of 102 meters. Total 20 tubes are used in the structure to incorporate all the spheres, whereas out of these three spheres consist either permanent or temporary exhibitions from around the world. The spheres used in the structure have a diameter of 18 meter and are connected to form the shape of a unit cell. Tubes connecting these spheres are comprised with escalators and lift giving access to most of the spheres. Out of total nine spheres, five spheres are habitable spheres which have exhibit halls and public space while the remaining four spheres are not open for access, while the top most sphere of the structure provides a panoramic view of the Brussels and the whole structure well recognized as the Europe’s most bizarre edifice since its inception.Three spheres of the uppermost four spheres of the structure lack vertical support due to which they are not given any public access, the initial design of the structure did not have any support and it was completely rested on spheres. To achieve the desired support in the structure for resistance against the wind support columns were added in the building.
Inside the AtomiumAlbeit when you look at the structure it seems like envisioned sci-fi object, but structure is more than just a sight to behold and you can take a tour through the structure having functional access to five spheres and a panoramic view from the top most sphere is just a mesmerizing experience providing a huge canvas of the urban fabric of the Brussels. The base sphere of the structure offers a permanent exhibition dedicated to the fifties, while middle level spheres offer temporary exhibitions and a bar whereas the upper sphere comprises a restaurant providing a panorama.
Atomium is a gem of Brussels skyline and unusual design and structure of the building attracts about 60,000 tourist every year. As Paris has the Eiffel Tower, Brussels has the Atomium, standing since 1958 as one of the most attracting structure across the world. займ на карту без отказов круглосуточновзять кредит онлайн
