At the first sight you may find it just like any European castle but actually it is an Indian monument influenced by western architecture up to some extent. Let me first explain the name of this royal palace. It says Asman Garh which literary means sky home or a home in the sky. This palace perfectly matches its name because it is situated on a high hillock of Hyderabad city and thus it seems it is touching the sky. This beautiful palace is built on a hillock on the road from Malakpet to Dilsukhnagar at some distance from Hyderabad TV tower. The creator of this Royal Palace is Sir Asman Jah who always wanted his home close to sky and up to an extent he was successful in fulfilling his dream.He built this fort for leisure purpose in the year 1885. The actual name of Asman Jah was Mohammed Mazharuddin Khan and you may be surprised to know that he belonged to the Nizam family as he was the grandson of second Nizam Sikander Jah. Belonging to the respected Paigah Family the dignified person Sir Asman Jah was once the Prime Minister of Hyderabad State from 1887 to 1894. He personally supervised and designed this fort as he wanted it to be and the magnificent palace was ready to serve in the year 1885. With very much castle like look this fort has several turrets made from granite stone and arched windows to complement the design of the palace. The fort represents clearly the Gothic style of architecture but the outer shape of the palace resembles to European medieval castle. At the front of the palace semicircular steps welcome you and after flight of few stairs you can enter the palace.This splendid historic monument is currently serves two purposes. One is it houses a museum that displays several archaeological artefacts or relics.
