The Builders’ Association of India (BAI) was formed about 70 years ago with a vision of creating healthy competition in the real estate sector and protecting real estate community from unjust government legislations. The BAI was initiated in the Pune city with guidance from Brigadier Jackson. Over 70 years of BAI’s life, it has grown in leaps and bounds and now it has about 130 centers spread across the country. The BAI is now headquartered at Mumbai and has about 13000 direct members and about 50,000 indirect members.BAI has been looking for the needs of the industry by taking suitable steps for tackling the issues faced by the sector on a regular basis. BAI has taken various steps for the benefits of the real estate sectors in India. BAI negotiates with the central government and state governments for issues faced by the realtors in India. It had taken the initiative for starting National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR) which at current has campuses in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune.BAI also works on project exports and has started overseas Construction Council of India (OCCI). It also takes action against the wrongs in revenue collection and avoids excessive pressure for its members. BAI also publishes various journals like “Indian Construction” and also organizes All India Builders’ Convention and Exhibition which gather huge numbers of construction fraternity under one roof. BAI is affiliated with the International Federation of Asia and Western Pacific hence it provides up to date information about trends and latest developments in the real estate world.Pune Builders Association, Mumbai Builders Association, Delhi Builders Association and Chennai Builders Association etc are the prominent centers of the BAI which were established over the years of its inception.
