The overall construction cost of this crucial and ambitious project is estimated at Rs 1250 crore which is finded by the Central Governemnt via Jawaharlal Nehru Nationa Urban Renewel Mission (JNNURM) and built by Mumbai Metro Politan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The Eastern Freeway is divided in three parts
- The corridor connecting Orange gate and beginning of the Anik-Panjarpol Link Road (9.29 Km stretch)
- The corridor from Anik to the Beginning of the Panjatpol-Ghatkopar Link Road (4.3 Km stretch)
- The corridor connecting Paranjpol to Ghatkopar (2.81 Km stretch)
The eastern freeway will provide signal free and faster connectivity with Eastern suburbs of the city from the central Mumbai. The predominant improvement in the traffic will be seen in the regions like Chembur, Sion, and Dadar etc. The connectivity for the travelers traveling towards Thane-Nashik and Panvel-Pune-Goa will be much easier from the South Mubai.Facts of Eastern Freeway
- The first part of the eastern corridor connecting Orange Gate on P D’mello road to the Mahu creek salt pan situated between Anik and Chembur is the city’s longest flyover. The 9.29 Km starching flyover is also the India’s second largest flyover after Hyderabad Airport flyover.
- The elevated road on the Eastern freeway is the longest elevated road in any urban area in the country which is built with 313 pillars and 3340 segments in the construction.
- The total 16.9 km stretch will completely signal free and eight entry and exit points at various places.
- The Eastern freeway will reduce the congested journey from CST to Chembur to just 20-minute drive.
- The second part of the freeway is built with 8 lane system.
