New Delhi: The Delhi government said yes to seven BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) routes falling under the PWD (Public Works Development). Majority portions of these routes are expected to experience expansion.There will be a total number of 14 new routes, out of which 7 routes that fall under the PWD will go ahead with the proposed BRT plan. Four consultants have been currently hired for seven BRT routes. These consultants will have to submit their study, after which the required amendments will be made. Sufficient place for private vehicles too will be allotted in these routes.
The detailed project report (DPR) will be submitted by the end of this month. The financial estimate for hiring of consultants provided by PWD is of approximately Rs. 14 crore.
The total length of the BRT routes that come under the PWD is of 105 km. Some of the routes that fall under PWD are:
- Narela to Azadpur- 15 km
- Sarai Kale Khan to Jor Bagh- 6 km
- Kirbi Place to Tilak Nagar- 4.3 km
- Mukundpur to Palam Mor- 29 km
- ISBT Kashmere Gate to Shahi Idgah- 26.5 km
- National Stadium to Ghazipur- 13.2 km
- ISBT Anand Vihar to CP- 11 km
This expansion is sure to resolve the problem of congestion along these routes.
