New Delhi: With an intention to bring almost all the properties under its supervision, the Delhi Municipal Corporation has begun numbering the properties. This measure was taken to track property owners who have been evading taxes for while. With the properties getting their Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC), property owners can no longer dodge the property taxes. According to a statistics, there are still numerous properties which have not come under the control of the Corporation. This has spelt heavy losses to the Corporation with an increase in the number of defaulters. Since the Corporation does not have a comprehensive record on the number of properties eligible for taxation, revenue of this department seems to have been affected. To accelerate revenue generation from tax collections and to keep an eye on the defaulters, the Delhi Municipal Corporation has introduced this unique numbering system.
