After getting green signal from the Centre to set the rules for implementing the Housing Regulatory Bill which was passed by the legislature and permitted by the President, the state government of Maharashtra has decided to soon assign regulatory body to uphold the interest of the homebuyers.Since the Centre had set similar act, ‘Real Estate’ (Regulation and Development Bill) and anticipated the state to allow it, the rules framing process for the Housing Regulatory Bill got delayed.The Principal Secretary of Housing Department said to the Centre that the housing needs of Mumbai is quite different from the cities in the country therefore there was an urgent requirement for housing regulator which was better in provisions than the proposed centre law. Their consent was agreed and now they will have their own housing regulator.He further said that they have got official permission from the centre to frame their own rules for Housing Regulatory Bill. The process is still going on, after which the authority would come into existence.The Principal Secretary of Housing Department has refused to define the time frame for completing the process of setting the rules and regulations.
