Pune: As compared to the previous year, the property tax collection by Pune Municipal Corporation has increased by around Rs. 102 crore in this present fiscal year of 2015-16. According to the sources, the raise in the revenue is said because of 5 to 10 % discount offered to the property owners if they paid their tax before 31st May.The Municipal Corporation notified the residents about the discount through hoardings, radio commercials and different advertisement medium. The concession on the property tax was available if the payment was made before 31st May, 2015.According to the Municipal Commissioner of PMC, the corporation had collected Rs. 420 crore as property tax whereas this year, the corporation managed to earn revenue of Rs. 522 crore. The property tax collection ward offices were operating even on Sundays for the convenience of people. Around Rs. 8.59 crore was collected on the last day of the discount date.The PMC had also decided to give the discounts to the property owners or the housing societies that integrated at least two eco-friendly features like rain-water harvesting, vermicomposting or solar heating in their residential projects. A rebate of 5% will be offered if any one technique is integrated and 10% if two features were added.As per the survey, Pune has 7.8 lakh properties which comprise of owned and rented homes, commercial buildings, factory spaces, shops, open plots and flats.
