Mumbai: With an intention to make residential units more affordable for people all over Maharashtra, state government has come up with a suggestion of introducing housing fund. According to the housing fund, a person can contribute certain amount of his monthly salary for a specific period.In this proposed housing fund, any self-employed person or government employee who wishes to become the member can contribute specific amount of his salary for a fixed period of time. The fund will be managed by the elected fund manager.As per the suggested housing fund policy, if the person who contributes belongs to private sector then he will have an alternative to contribution that matches his provident fund.One of the housing department officials said that the number of memberships would reveal that how many people require housing and also said that contribution made will be invested in government securities specified by RBI.The official further added that the employee can apply for residential unit under the government scheme after the period of 10 years. The policy will indeed motivate people to save funds for owning a home and will also boost the housing finance.People who are part of this policy will get an advantage of being eligible for Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) which is draw for flat sales.
