Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC’s) standing committee has agreed to offer discount in premium charges for the residential projects that are built with eco-friendly norms. The civic administration has planned to offer a discount of 10 to 50 % on premium charges which is more than or above the development rate that real estate builders can utilize to legalize the staircases and balcony area.Since 2007, the municipal corporation is providing discount on the property tax to property owners or societies that have incorporated eco-friendly norms like rainwater harvesting, solar water heaters or buildings with vermin-composting systems.A building can be constructed with various eco-friendly norms. Some of the features are mandatory to be integrated while some are optional. Each green feature has points based on its impact on the environment. The real estate company can earn points by reaching its performance objective.There are total 88 eco-friendly measures that focus on 8 areas of construction that are site design planning, efficient building materials, environment design, solar water heating, energy-efficient lighting, water conservation, water segregation and other such useful environment-friendly features. Out of the 88 measures, 27 are obligatory to be integrated while developing a property.Apart from the approval on offering discount in premium charges, the standing committee has kept the decision of new payment structure for PMPML on hold. The civic body will be paying in monthly installments to the transport service for its functions.
