Experts related to property registration said that the government is planning to change the calculation method of stamp duty according to which there will be hike in stamp duty on registration of properties, sales deed and other such agreements. If a person fails to pay the stamp duty on property registration then he may have to bear fourfold fine instead of double.The sources said that according to the new amendment the stamp duty will be charged at certain percentage of the total value of the property instead of calculating in parts of some thousands.Rs. 100 stamp duty on some agreements such as deeds or administration bonds will be now raised to Rs. 500 on every property dealings. However, citizens can take slight sigh of relief as the new amendment will draw extremely nominal stamp duty, in case of property transfer to a blood relation. Another attraction is that a person residing in abroad can pay his stamp duty online.According to the revenue minister, Maharashtra state will be able to earn Rs. 300 crore with this new amendment. The minister further said that the government decision will make the registration processes simpler and clear.Almost a month back, the government sent all the decisions in form of amendments to the Maharashtra Stamp Act.
