Property tax payers who had paid in excess can now take a sigh of relief as Haryana state government has decided to revise the property tax policy. According to the officials, in last few years, the housing tax policy has been modified many times. The last modification was made in October 2013, according to which the amount of tax was reduced that means the tax payers had paid extra.The additional chief secretary to the Haryana government said that since the tax quantum dropped down when the new tax system was introduced, some tax payers had paid in excess and as a result other taxpayers benefited.The tax payers who had paid the property tax in excess demanded the government to refund their amount but there was no such provision made. Hence, the government had to come up with the new amendment. According to this correction in tax policy, the property owners who had paid in excess can now seek for refund by approaching the municipal corporation. In case if the owners did not wish for refund then their excess amount will be adjusted automatically in the property tax for the year 2014-15.According to the principal of urban local bodies department, the number of excess tax payers from the residential category might be limited but there must be many from the institutional and commercial section seeking for refund. Since the commercial segment pay tax in lakhs, they would benefit with the refund policy.
