AMC to Offer Monsoon Discounts on Property Tax Bills

ahmedabad property-taxAhmedabad:  Property owners of Ahmedabad can enjoy the monsoons to the fullest as the city municipal corporation has declared to offer huge discounts on property tax bills. Due to the rising anger among the public, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has forgone over the hiked property taxes.The standing committee recently affirmed that the residential as well as commercial property owners who have got property tax bills with hiked charges will be offered 50% rebate over the increased rates.  Due to the addition of changed 2011 Jantri rates in the tax assessment, over 8 lakh property owners in Ahmedabad had received the increased tax bills.A senior official of AMC said that new bills will be given to the property owners who have issued the bills but haven’t paid yet, within few months. The property tax department has managed records of overall 17.89 lakh properties around the city. The increase in the tax rate has affected around 47% of the properties in the city, which included 8.44 lakh residential and commercial units. According to the report there were 62,000 properties with decreased tax bills and 8.91 lakh properties which were not affected by the hiked tax rates.According to the tax officials, they have waived revenue of Rs. 63 crore by offering 50% cut in the charges over the hiked property tax. As per the standing committee chairman, the cut back on tax rate will exist till the municipal corporation does not come up with a new tax structure.
