As per a report, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) is said to have registered 2 billion sq ft area of green buildings till now and currently it has shown interest to increase the count. IGBC is planning to cover 10 Billion Sq ft area of eco-friendly building projects by 2022.IGBC is a branch of CII-Godrej Green Business Centre which is known for its active participation in encouraging Green Building drive in our country. According to a statement presented by this green building council, the company has currently acquired its phenomenal goal of constructing, 2 billion sq ft area of green building projects. The council is now aiming for something big, when the country will be celebrating its 75th year of Independence in 2022, IGBC would have 10 billion sq ft area of green projects.The bond between Indian Green building Council and US Green Building Council (USGBC) will be further reinforced to work constantly on expansion of green buildings in India. A new agreement will be signed between these two councils that would work for next 10 years.Till 2018 end, the LEED India projects which is registered with IGBC will be certified by USGBC from July 1st, 2014. IGBC will carry on to verify the projects under IGBC Townships, IGBC Homes, IGBC commercial buildings, IGBC landscaping and IGBC SEZ.The chairman of IGBC said that with an intention to increase the number of green buildings in India, the council feels it’s better if the LEED rating is managed by USGBC.
