Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is planning to allow the citizens to assess their property tax online from the next fiscal year. The software which will be required for this process has already been prepared, thus moving to the online process will be easy.Property tax is the only kind of tax where the authority makes the decision that how much payment has to be made hence they tend to make numerous mistakes which is a nuisance to both citizens and municipal corporation. However, e-assessment will make the process much simpler and error-free.Presently, AMC has appointed numerous employees for property tax collection that takes place every four years. This forces a manpower requirement. In Bangalore, the online process is already in action. Here the taxpayers fill and submit their property details online after which the tax gets automatically calculated by the system. Various payment options like credit cards, netbanking or paying tax at city civic centre is made available for the citizens.The municipal corporation said that a special squad will be appointed who would perform a surprise visit on properties and check if the owners are stating correct property details. The officials have although said that important alterations will be made in the BPMC Act to integrate it with the new tax system as a result the self-assessment system will be launched next year. The municipal commissioner also said that they have appointed TCS for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) of Rs. 38 crore.
