AUDA’s New Regulation to Construct Buildings with Disabled-friendly Design

handicapAhmedabad: Now all the upcoming buildings in Ahmedabad will be designed according to the requirements of the handicap citizens. This new guidelines came into focus in an event which was organized by Handicap International on 19th May. Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have also issued a notice with respect to this new requisite.A Senior Town Planner in AUDA declared that as per the development authority’s new guidelines, the upcoming buildings in Ahmedabad which fall within the limits of AUDA and AMC should have infrastructure that makes the construction disabled-friendly. According to the regulations, modified construction features like flooring with color system, ramps and other such necessary elements should be included in the new buildings. Application regarding the new building guidelines was already sent to the government and provisional approval has also been received.Handicap International, a disability advocacy organization had held a media sensitization seminar in Ahmedabad which highlighted on the issues associated with the physically-challenged people. One of the members of this international organization in this seminar said that people are still not aware or sensitive to the problems related to disabled people; they are unaware of their needs.Another member of this disabled support organization said that Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has planned to come up with 15 contemporary bus stations that will integrate infrastructure facility which will support the requirements of the physically-handicapped citizens.
