Bangalore: The cabinet has approved Phase 2 of the Bangalore metro Rail Project. The Bangalore metro rail project has definitely boosted up the infrastructure and development in the region and devolvement of Phase 2 of the metro project will improve the public transport system in the city to provide much needed additional public transportation in the city.The development of the phase 2 of the Bangalore Metro Rail is estimated at Rs 26,405.14 crore and this price has been estimated according to the construction cost of 2011-12 with an escalation of about 5 per cent per annum. The escalation of cost has been calculated including Central Taxes with exclusion of state taxes and duties.The total project will be developed in joint venture of the Government of India and Government of Karnataka whereas government of India will have the share of about Rs 5281 crore while Karnataka government will put a share of Rs 8983 crore. The Karnataka government will set up the whole amount through various sources, out of which, Rs 1689.90 crore will come as grant and remaining Rs 12141.14 crore will be raised through Senior Debt.The complete project will be executed by the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of the government of India and Government of Karnataka with 50:50 equity of each.
