Kozhikode: The district development committee had a meeting asking government to devise amendments in the Coastal Regulation Zone Act. The meeting was held at the collectorate conference hall, where the committee suggested that government should make amendments in the CRZ Act pointing out the anomalies in the CRZ Act.Anomalies in the CRZ Act have resulted as a hug hurdle to carry out the construction activities in the coastal areas in Koyilandy and other coastal areas. K Dasan urged government to take steps to include Koyilandy municipality in the CRZ II category so that its development can be well served for the future. The Koyilandy municipalityis currenty resided in the CRZ III category and it is very necessary that it should be shifted to CRZ II category.The meeting also passed various suggestions to the government which needs to be looked after for better growth of the region. The region is going through various issues like scarcity of sand which is used for the construction in the region.The meeting also complained that there have been rather sluggish proceedings regarding the development and repair works of the roads in the region.The government officials associated with housing schemes under the Indira Awaas Yojana said that the department is planning to construct about 3476 housing units.
