Ahmedabad: The forthcoming general election has given a respite to Ahmedabad citizens from hike in the civic taxes in the city. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation had decided to increase the property prices as a result of increase in the budget of the corporation. Corporation hinted that it would upgrade few of the city areas from lower to higher category in the property tax formula which would increase the property taxes if the elected wing accepts the decision.As property taxes will be increased only if the proposal will be approved by the elected wing hence at current Ahmedabad will not see any property tax hike. Municipal Commissioner has put a roadmap for the system for assessment of taxes based on the Bangalore’s system. Bangalore has online self assessment system and AMC proposes to put same for the Ahmedabad municipal corporation.Guruprasad Mahopatra said corporation will also deal with various other issues such as growing traffic, and it has proposed a Rs. 5.52 crore project for traffic management. The proposed system will link 186 junctions to a computer system which will control all the traffic lights. Ahmedabad Corporation has also proposed multi-level parking lot at Navrangpura costing about Rs 60 crore.The budget which was proposed last year was comparatively less compared to this year’s budget, hence to level up the revenue Ahmedabad Corporation had decided to increase the property tax by about 60 per cent.
