Pune: Pune Municipal Corporation has identified about 16,000 properties which have not been assessed for payment of property tax in the city limits. PMC’s civic body had initiated a month long drive to find out properties which have not been assessed by the Pune Municipal Corporation.Under the drive, PMC also found that about 4000 properties which were observed to additional constructions in the city limits and owners of such properties have failed to inform civic administration about their constructions. With the huge number of unassessed properties PMC is expected to collect additional revenue of Rs 20 crore every year as property tax. The properties discovered during the month long drive will all come under the property tax assessment and accordingly property tax will be collected from all the 16000 properties.Most of these identified properties are located on the fringes of the city areas while it includes both big residential and commercial complexes. With many properties defaulting on property tax in Pune city, PMC is expected to get around Rs 30 crore through property tax including regular tax as well as penalty.Property tax is one of the main revenue sources for the PMC and civic body handles all the billing and collection of property tax on residential, commercial, plots and all the other types of properties within the municipal limits. The survey of the PMC had noted that the city has overall 7.5 lakh properties across the city which fall under the property tax assessment process.
