Gujarat: To fulfill the promise of affordable urban housing, the Government of Gujarat has decided to come up with 75,000 affordable homes by its para institutions across the state.According to the official, the government is planning to set-up 1 lakh homes but initially they will be working on at least 75,000 affordable homes. Corporations and urban development bodies, across the cities of Gujarat will be constructing this project. In cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot, the tendering process is almost over.According to the sources, the government is all set with its new affordable urban housing policy which will be declared soon. The notice is waiting for the final approval from the Chief Minister. The officials further said that, in the last assembly poll, the CM had promised to come up with 2.2 million affordable housing units in the urban areas. Out of which 5 lakh home will be constructed by the institutions like civic bodies and urban development authorities, 7 lakh would be built under Rajiv Awas Yojana to eliminate the slum across the cities while the remaining units will be developed by the private developers in the public private partnership mode. The private developers would be given different type of concessions in form of late payment of interests on loans and relaxing the by-laws to develop this project. All these components will be a fundamental part of the proposed new urban housing policy.Safety measures are been taken to ensure good quality construction. The structure quality will be assessed by the third party.
