Pune: Indian Heritage Cities Network (IHCN) has organized the Fourth Biennial Conference from 20th to 22nd November 2013 with an important theme of “Economics of Living Heritage Cities” identifying the opportunities for sustainable developments of Indian heritage cities through a heritage sensitive approach. The conference is held within the premises of the Infosys in Pune which is expected to be participated by about 200 professional, scholars, and various administrators from India as well as from around the world.IHCN was founded by UNESCO New Delhi Office with support of the Ministry of Urban Development of India which is now actively involved in heritage –related works across India. IHCN organizes such biennial conferences after every two years supporting various Indian cities to use heritage resources for sustainable developments though heritage-sensitive approach. IHCN also helps to find ways to optimize various aspects of economics for the development of heritage properties situated across India.This year’s conference has commenced in Pune city with joint organization of IHCN, UNESCO and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) along with huge support of Ministry of Urban Development India; Maharana of Mewar Charitable Trust; France-UNESCO Convention; and Embasy of France in India. Earlier IHCN had organized two back to back seminars with the subject “Economics of Heritage” in Pune and Bangalore during 2012. The last Biennial Conference was held in Mysore in 2011 which cleared various points with three broad subjects Economic and Financial Aspects, Socio-cultural Economics of Heritage Management and Training and operational Issues.This year’s conference is divided in various sessions- inaugural session, introductory session, and concurrent session. The complete conference event also has an exhibition which will be displayed at both the main venue and the inaugural venue of the conference; and student’s competition under the same conference.
