Chennai: The move to go online for submission of the building plans and tracking the status has got a good response in Chennai. At the CREDAI Southcon 2013, the principal secretary and commissioner of Chennai Corporation said that the corporation has received around 15,000 applications with respect to different types of approvals.He further said that, the Corporation has made sure that all the applications get cleared within a month time and the powers have been handed over to the regional offices by the Corporation. As compared to the earlier method, the officials, planers and training staff can execute the rules in a much improved method.The Corporation, in last two years has issued several notices which includes stop-work notice to 1174 buildings, 104 buildings received lock and seal notice while demolition notice was sent to 521 buildings. CREDAI headed the drive of executing extensive changes for self-regulation.The Corporation also started with another plan which is to involve private sector for enforcement. License surveyors system is already established in Chennai Corporation. They will be delegated with the task of analyzing the approvals of the building plan for which they have to mandatorily check the building during application clearance, laying the roof slab and also at the time when the foundation is laid.It is the prime duty of the license surveyor to report to the corporation authorities while scrutinizing each category so that suitable action can be taken. The developers are in charge of maintaining the environment and check if the construction activity produces some kind of waste. In accordance with the Municipal Corporation’s solid waste regulations, the waste has to be properly accounted and it should be appropriately recycled and used.
