Overall Vacancy Levels in Malls Declined by 0.6 %

mall-kolkataKolkata: The Cushman and Wakefield report stated that the overall vacancy levels in malls across India witnessed a decline of 0.6 per cent. Although the supply in malls was quite decent in the previous quarters which included 0.77 million square feet of new supply in metro cities of Kolkata and Pune, the overall vacancy levels remained to 14.51 per cent.Pune city witnessed a new supply of about 700,000 square feet in malls while the Kolkata city witnessed opening of various malls which included 70,000 square feet of supply of shops and centers. The reduction in overall vacancy levels in malls of Pune and Kolkata city was a result of healthy transaction activities, although the new supply was substantially added in these cities.Bangalore mall vacancy was dipped by about 1.8 per cent due to the increased leasing activities and lack of infusion of new supply. The big regions like NCR and Mumbai observed minor increase in the vacancy levels whereas cities like Chennai, Hyderabad recorded reduced vacancy levels.The third quarter of the year was expected to get about 9 malls, but about 7 malls were delayed due to various reasons which further resulted into a new supply crunch across the country. Bangalore and Chennai witnessed delay in two big scale malls each having 710,000 square feet and 461,000 square feet areas. Bangalore observed huge setback in the mall supply with delay in construction of two malls. Pune city also observed delay in construction of various malls which resulted in losing the space of 430,000 square feet. Hyderabad and NCR also observed delay in large scale in mall constructions.Cushman and Wakefield report stated that, malls rentals have also increased in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurgaon due to the scarcity of supply in malls.
