With an intention to promote renewable energy and to set a benchmark for the other government buildings within the region, Trichy Corporation has completely transformed one of its buildings into a solar-powered building.The computerized tax collection centre which is located within the corporation site will be driven by solar energy. There are around seven computers in the building that will be powered by a three KW panels. The solar panels have been installed on the building terrace by a known firm, Aeon Renewable Energy. According to the sources, the company has forwarded the suggestion to implement a similar feature in the district corporations. The first phase of the project will be set up in Trichy, Tirunelveli and Coimbatore. With an approximate cost of Rs. 7 lakh, solar panel has been installed in the building.According to the corporate officials, the project is set up on trial basis and if it works then solar power will be integrated in city’s other government buildings too. The corporation engineer of the city said that building functions on solar power and tests have been conducted to check the energy consumption and voltage fluctuations.
