Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation seems to have taken its target quite seriously. In order to achieve the target of Rs. 4,168 crore, the PMC has become stringent with property tax collection. The PMC has asked the tax payers to settle their dues first before approaching the administration with grievances.The Pune Municipal Corporation has kept a check on property tax collection since there has been a significant rise in the number of defaulters. The revenue collected via property tax, octroi and other development charges is the main income source for the Corporation. Recently the octroi concept was scrapped to make way for the Local Body Tax. Previously the revenue generated by octroi contributed to around 40-42% of the total income for the PMC. It is expected that the LBT will also contribute like its predecessor.To make sure the targets are met on time, owners of around 7.5 lakh properties have been asked to settle the property tax dues before coming up with any tax related issues. Be it commercial, residential or open plots, property owners have been asked to settle their tax dues first. This has come as a strict order from the PMC which is planning to regularize the system of property tax in Pune.
