New Delhi: Although the real estate market is going through sluggish patch, banks are rushing to fund the commercial real estate projects across the country. Real estate is emerging as the best investment hotspot in the country for the banks to invest in the market.In the first half of the current fiscal year, about 173 projects with an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore for each came for the bank funding, out of which 53 projects were from the real estate sector with an estimate cost of Rs 62,000 crore. Banks have always funded various residential projects across the country along with finance to the home loans. Commercial real estate finance across the country rose up by 19 percent by August, 2013 compared to August, 2012.Many analysts have warned with a precautionary note saying that market demand seems to be slowing down, the banks financing such real estate projects may increase the risk in the market, but several projects are covered through lease rentals which will help reduce the risks in the future.The RBI has put in several safeguards for the real estate market. Hence things are much safer for banks while investing in the real estate projects.
